The Tea Cosy Has Landed !!!!!!!!!!!!
Filed under Uncategorized by barebraes at 10:41 am on Apr 17 2009
Yes Its Here !!!!
The very Nice DragonLady sent me ‘The Tea Cosy’ and now I am in possesion of a very fine peice of craftiness.
As you can see the natives have been very interested by the new edition to Barebraes and have taken no time in making the Tea Cosy feel at home.
I intend to find a few more photo opportunities over this coming weekend but heres a taster of the things to come !!!
First things first the opening ceremony

The package was no sooner opened and in use
First inspection came from the 3 most nosey inhabitants of Barebraes
Then a tour of the abode

I think Hooch thougth that if he barked loud enough it would come and play with him

Is it my imagination or does Hooch look vaguely puzzled? A new arrival that is given the ‘grand tour’ but which does obviously not want to play?

The cats certainly look a bit wary of it. Coming from the Dragon’s Lair, it probably has a hint of cat about it

Eh, the ROCKS! Barebraes etched in stone. Next thing you know the teacosy will be in Australia, adorning the home of a tea addled homesteader in Tasmania, or NZ. Folks, do you really use the teacosies to keep the tea warm? Why don’t you just keep the tea warm in an old fashioned and more efficfient Thermos flask? or stick your cuppa tea in the microwave (60 seconds should do it)? If you can twitter, you can microwave. Even your Queen, the Obamas report, does ipod while el dookie warms her Royal Doulton tea cup in the Samsung microwave.

Can’t you just tell mjc is American? We didn’t found the Empire on Thermos flasks you know, old boy. Tea in a microwave? That’s almost as bad as putting ice in a single malt. We’ll stick to proper tea in a proper tea pot with a proper tea cosy thanks!
We still have traditions to uphold in this country, what will you be asking for next - a Japanese Microwave Ceremony?

Forgoodnessake! Tea in a Thermos! The very idea!
I suppose you redeem yourself by warming the flask first mjc
What a varied and exciting journey Her Majesty’s Magnificent Teacosy is having. Isn’t it wonderful how all our teapots have so far had white handles and spoots? Such taste. I don’t know about the rest of you, but ours has two cats’ faces on the body of the pot…
We’re thinking of having a Japanese Microwave Ceremony Les. It will consist of lifting it up, carrying it out to the garage and - hopefully - selling it for very little! The most it has ever done is boil frozen peas and defrost Things Forgotten in the Freezer…

mjc, you are very sensible, I do what you do, coffee in the morning, when too much cream gets used goes straight in microwave, 30 sec does it.
Don’t drink much tea anymore, my wife still does. I got used to driving to work with coffee from diner, in the morning. I don’t think I’ve seen a tea cosy till this magnificent speciman showed up. It is really waterproof as it looks great after it’s swim.

Was that cosy sending an e-mail Barebraes ?

Ahem hem. At the risk of sounding chippy and pedantic (me?), Harry, I think you’ll find that the entire impetus for these tea cosy related japes came from my blog about the first Great Garage Sale. Landlandy spotted my hand-knitted beauty in one of the pics and asked for the pattern. And the rest is history…….

Oh, nice job by the way, Barebraes! Can’t wait to see what adventures that teacosy gets up to next…..

Sorry SD, I would never want to upset you as you have so much power.
I hope Hooch does not get a hold of Cosy as it will get soaked again. Lots of good ideas come to the fore BUT it takes someone to carry them to fruition
You may not let me come to your Kingdom

What does one have to do to be included on the Grand Tour of the Tea Cosy?
I wonder if it would like to have a guided tour of TSM’s lovely garden, the adjacent New Forest and be photographed filled with mine hostess’s favourite tea and boiling water to keep it nice and warm in the English tradition?
As for MJC’s expose on El Dookie, pop over to my blog for a complete Horlicks on this method: http://x333xxx.islandblogging.co.uk/2009/04/18/the-el-dookie-method/

Were both off to a day of spinning today at Shapinsays Haughland House. Camera and Tea Cosy will be accompanying me and action shots to follow

Would you like a visit from the tea cosy Fx? I’m sure it would enjoy a trip Darnn Sarfff.
mjc, words fail me.. they just blimmin’ FAIL ME. Tea in a THERMOS???? for a start, it’s not big enough- me and the Big Man and, to a lesser degree Perfect Daughter, all drink copious amounts of tea, and secondly, you would lose all the peering in the teapot to see if there’s enough left for one more cup,
all the adding a smidgen more water and perhaps an extra tea bag to get another cuppa out of it,
all the lively discussions about whether the tea has been made too long to do that and will now be stewed and should we make another pot?
I pity you mjc, I do, really.

See what you’re missing Mjc?
I bet you don’t even have egg cosies…

I have been away, whiling the weekend on a new Acer netbbook. Thermos is of course an old, almost sactified, British institution. As holy as the mighty tea bag and Marvel creamer. Not all tea is created and drunk alike. If a Thermos is not acceptable, I do not see how a tea cozy is much use for quality preservation. Landlady: coffee and tea - maximum 15 minutes.

Well LL&Mjc.
When I am out fencing the thermos comes along with hot water there in. For morning tea it is Irish/English Breakfast. For lunch Lipton. If i have to camp overnight the cooking fire is started, the “Billy” is brought upto heat and a hand full of Liptons loose leaf put in, then taken of the fire and given a few 360 deg Swings to settle the leaves , then the Billy put back into the heat zone for a minute to allow setllment, then you have a cuppa.

What’s this about my not having egg cosies, Landlady. I will have you know that the last time I was Oxford, I not only visited Blackwell’s but Primark, where I duly got myself some boxer shorts at a rather decent price. Those boxer shorts were the only thing priced reasonably (apart from Soaplady’s products and SD’s bric a brac, of course) in the whole of the United Kingdom. Snug and warm, if you are curious, Landlady.

Flannel ones would be better, particularly with some sort of tartan design, but Primark did not have them last July. And there no cod pieces either on display or for sale either. Pride and Prejudice was yesterday’s Aga Saga.

I have unbidden images in my head. Jings. Tartan plum warmers.
